Igloo Cooler this Cool Chill model is a heavy built model for a 12v fridge. It gets a five star rating and not very many reviews and some people are not very satisfied with the product. I see this a lot with these small portable electric  Coolers.  I think it is because some folks do not think of really giving them a chance to work or they buy the product thinking it will work exactly like the fridge at home.  For one thing they are running on a small part of the cooling capacity your house fridge is using. They have to do this starting in a hot car with very little help to get started I think if you start them with cold products or some ice the 12 volt portable fridges may have a chance.

A lot of people said they used freezer packs to get the temperature down and the cooler works way better after that. First cooling makes sense to me because of the way they work . The system is to use compressor to concentrate the gas to liquid then force air over it and it creates frost as it turns to gas.  Then if the compressor gets  two hot the system can freeze and will quit functioning.  It seems not to make sense until you understand the system and it is quite delicate. If you try and help it along a bit the little Igloo Cooler will work fine as well as  lasting longer.

I know we use small air conditioners in booths we work in  inside the sawmill I work at. If you try and turn them to a really low temperature they quit working .

If you just try for a bit lower temperature just so you can stand it they do that fine.  Then you can turn then down a bit more really slow but if it starts blowing hot air you have to start again after washing them out with tap water to thaw the cooling system.

The big benefit is that if you take care of the portable electric cooler and do not expect it to function like your house unit you will probable have cold lunches and cold drinks for a long time. I think if you have the 12 v fridge inside a passenger vehicle and it is way to hot and the 12v fridge is not really needed, rather than burn it up running for nothing just shut it down . I also advise you to use those freezer packs or start with cooler products in your cooler first.

• Here are a few things I think will help get these products to function way better .

• One try not to have them in to hot or to closed in a space

• Try and start with cold items inside like the freezer packs

• Try and have them well ventilated they need a bit of air flow to function

• I am not sure but I think excessive vibration can stop the smooth function of the 12v freezer

• Check to see if their are vents or fins you can vacuum clear of dust now and then

If you did want just a drink fridge it may be a better idea to just buy a sports portable fridge the cost is a bit higher but they are designed for more and faster cooling.

I know it seems like a lot of work just to have a little electric portable cooler but having a cool drink or crisp lettuce on your sandwich is worth that much. But if you think you can stuff the fridge full of warm drinks and have them cold an hour later the Igloo cooler will probably not function that way.
